Privacy
Ancient Origins for Kids is operated by Stella Novus Limited. A parent account on this site is only for this site. It is not linked to any other Ancient Origins membership.

Who this is for
This note is for parents. Children do not sign in. The site does not ask a child for an email address, and it does not create an account for a child.
If nobody is signed in
Stories, the map, and the other pages can be read with no account. For those visits the site does not set a cookie, does not start a parent session, and does not load an analytics or advertising script. The sign-in service is not contacted, and the lesson material is not requested.
What a parent account stores
When a parent asks for a sign-in link, the parent email is sent to Supabase, the sign-in service for this site, and stored there. Supabase keeps that data in the European Union. Supabase sends the link. There is no password. The first link creates the parent account.
After the parent opens that link and the sign-in succeeds, this browser stores the session in its own local storage. That session holds the parent email, a user id, the sign-in tokens, when the session expires, a paid flag, and a plan name. The paid flag and the plan name follow the subscription recorded for that account. Card details are entered on the Stripe page, not on this site. This site does not collect a card number. Signing out deletes that session from this browser. Asking for the link does not, by itself, store a session in the browser.
The same sign-in service keeps a profile row for the parent: the email, the paid flag, the plan name, and the time the row was created. It also keeps a subscription row: the status, the plan, when the current period ends, and the Stripe customer id. A parent can read their own subscription row. They cannot change it. The site’s pages do not put that row in a cookie.
When a parent or a teacher pays from the Pricing page, this site sends them to Stripe to take the payment. Stripe receives the email and the card payment, and a tax id if the school or teacher plan asks for one.
When a parent is signed in and opens a lesson, this browser sends the sign-in token to this site, on the same address the parent is using. This site asks Supabase whether the token belongs to a parent. Only then does it return the path, the worksheet, the quiz, and the read-aloud. When a subscription is required, the lesson is returned only if that account has an active subscription or a trial. It does not set a cookie. A visitor who is not signed in is not sent that material.
The parent email is used to send the sign-in link and to recognise the account. It is not used for a newsletter. There is no newsletter form on this site.
What is not collected about a child
The site does not ask for a child’s email, full name, age, school, or address, and it does not send those to Stella Novus Limited or to Supabase.
The Win page is different, and it stays on the device. If someone uses it, the name they type, the country they choose, and the score are saved only in that browser’s local storage. They are not sent to Stella Novus Limited or to Supabase. Clearing the site’s data in the browser removes them.
A lesson quiz, when a signed-in parent opens one, is not saved. Today those lesson quizzes are not filled in yet.
How long it is kept
The session stays in the browser until the parent signs out, the session expires, or the browser’s site data is cleared. The parent email stays in Supabase, in the European Union, until the account is deleted. To ask for deletion, use the contact form. Signing out on one browser does not delete the account.
Cookies and analytics
The site code does not set a cookie for visitors, and it does not set one when a parent signs in. The session uses local storage, and only after the parent opens the sign-in link. Analytics, if they are added later, may run only while a parent is signed in. They must not run for a child browsing with no parent signed in. None are installed now.
