Known. Diggers found the palace and the temple.
The city was Girsu, now called Tello, on the southern plains of Iraq. The ruins date to at least the middle of the third millennium BC. In the ground were mud-brick walls of a palace called the Lord Palace of the Kings. They also found the temple of the war god Ningirsu. That temple was called Eninnu. A stone there carried the name of King Gudea, who built the temple for Ningirsu. More than 200 clay tablets lay in old dig rubble. They are written records of work in the city.
