Jade, bronze, and nine elite tombs in a lost town.

Known. Nine high-status tombs, with jade and bronze, were found in a Bronze Age town.

The page places the Zhaigou site in Henan province, about 110 kilometres south of the city of Yulin in Shaanxi province. The tombs date to the Shang dynasty, about 3,000 years ago (around 1600 BC to 1046 BC). People had also lived at the site more than 6,000 years ago. More than 200 objects came from the nine tombs, including bronze drinking vessels, painted pottery, jade, and pieces set with turquoise. One tomb held a bronze piece from a chariot. The town centre was built of packed earth, and the town had pottery workshops.

Archaeologists think the town may have been the capital of another state that the Shang later took over, but they have not proved it.
