No chiefs were named.
Debated. A boat, a sword, and the bones of a dog were found, but no chief was named.
The graves are near Akureyri, on the Eyjafjörður coast in northern Iceland. They date to the 9th or 10th century. In one burial, a sword and the bones of a person and a dog lay near the surface. Half of that boat had already been washed away. Two more boat burials lay close by.
Experts think an important person was buried here, but they do not know what the sea has carried off.
