Debated. A hammer, tongs, and a bent sword were under a lawn, but the man is not proved to be a blacksmith.

A man pulled flagstones from his lawn in Sogndalsdalen, Norway, and found a rusty iron hammer and tongs, then a bent sword. The objects match styles of the 8th or 9th century. Near the top of the grave were those tools, a sword, an axe, and a few farm tools. Deeper down were a razor, tweezers, scissors, a frying pan, and a poker. At the bottom were the burned remains of a person, with bits of clothing, some beads, and a bone comb. About 60 objects came from the grave.

Experts think the tools were buried to show a smith’s skill, but they only say he might have made them.
