A summer hunting camp by a river.

St. Joseph County, Michigan. about 13,000 years ago. Before writing. Known. Free

Known. Clovis people camped in summer by a river in southwestern Michigan about 13,000 years ago.

The camp is the Belson site, in St. Joseph County, near the border with Indiana. They came back for about three to five years, then left each time. Stone tools and weapons with the special Clovis point were in the soil. Protein on the tools shows they had eaten rabbit, musk ox, deer, and peccary, an ancient relative of the pig. Some stone came from Indiana, and some from Kentucky, about 645 kilometres away.

The page says this wide diet does not match the old idea that Clovis people ate only huge animals.
