Hundreds of new pictures scraped into the desert.

Nazca Desert, Peru. about 200 BC to 500 AD. Greece and Rome. Known. Free

Known. Checks on the ground confirmed 303 new pictures scraped into the Nazca desert.

The Nazca people made figures in the Nazca Desert of Peru between about 200 BC and 500 AD. They scraped off the red surface so paler soil showed underneath. The new pictures are mostly smaller ones, of people, animals, and heads. The figures spread across about 440 square kilometres.

The page says the pictures may lead toward a ceremonial centre called Cahuachi, but what they were meant to tell is still not clear.
