Known. People used Dargan Shelter, high in the Blue Mountains, during the last ice age.
The shelter is at 1,073 metres, in country that was cold and open then. Charcoal from hearths shows use from about 22,000 to 19,000 years ago, and people came back again and again. The dig found 693 stone artefacts, with 117 flakes in layers older than 16,000 years. Faded art on the rock includes a child-sized hand stencil. Some stone came from about 50 kilometres away, and some from about 150 kilometres away.
The page does not say what is still argued.
