A king's name on a temple stone

Abu Erteila, Sudan. from about 1 BC to 20 AD. Greece and Rome. Debated. Free

The page does not say it is certain that a fire burnt the temple.

Debated. Writing in a temple at Abu Erteila names a king and a queen.

Abu Erteila is about 200 kilometres north of Khartoum, in Sudan. In the temple, a basalt altar, the base for a sacred boat, and hieroglyphs were found. The hieroglyphs name King Natakamani and Queen Amanitore. The page says they ruled in the golden age of Meroƫ, from about 1 BC to 20 AD. The page links the find to Nubian life between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD. The temple is thought most likely to have been destroyed by a fire, and the ruins are still being dated.

The words of the hieroglyphs are still being studied.
