Giant stones of a grandfather story

Tak'alik Ab'aj, Guatemala. more than 2,500 years old. Greece and Rome. Debated. Free

Debated. Two huge carved stones are thought to show an old grandfather story.

The stones are at Tak'alik Ab'aj, in Guatemala. They are carved from pumice and are thought to be more than 2,500 years old. Researchers link them to the Olmec people. One stone shows a figure called Grandfather. The other may weigh up to five tons and is covered with signs. Together, the stones are believed to picture a story called the descent of the grandfather.

Researchers still argue whether this place shows Olmec people giving way to Maya people.
