Debated. Two old roads are said to line up with the winter sunrise.
The roads are at the Gasco site, in New Mexico, about 70 kilometres south of Chaco Canyon. Pueblo people built roads in this region about 1,000 years ago and earlier. These two run side by side, each for up to six kilometres. A study says they point toward the winter sunrise over Mount Taylor. They do not seem to run from one town to another.
People still disagree about what Chaco roads were mainly for.
