A wrapped mummy in a sealed room

Pachacamac, Peru. around AD 1000 to 1200. Last 1,000 years. Debated. Free

No one has shown that this burial dates from Inca rule.

Debated. A wrapped mummy lay in a chamber that had not been opened.

The chamber is at Pachacamac, on the Pacific coast of Peru. It was probably built around AD 1000 to 1200. The Inca conquered this area later, in the late 1400s. The mummy is still inside a thick bundle. That bundle is being dated. Scans can study it without unwrapping it.

Who the person was is still unknown. The idea that later Inca builders left the mummy out of respect is a reading, not a proved fact.
