A desert tomb at Abydos.

Abydos, Egypt. about 3,600 years ago. First cities. Debated. Free

No named king was found.

Debated. The page calls this a royal tomb, but it does not name the person inside.

The tomb is at Gebel Anubis, a burial ground at Abydos in southern Egypt. It dates to the Second Intermediate Period, about 3,600 years ago. In the ground was a limestone burial room, once covered by mud-brick vaults. Carvings of the goddesses Isis and Nephthys stand by the entrance. Old writing on the walls is said to include a name, but the page says nobody knows yet which ruler it is.

The buried person's name is still unknown, and for years people argued over whether these Abydos rulers were real.
