Gold still on the temple wall.

Edfu, Egypt. between 237 and 57 BC. Greece and Rome. Known. Free

Known. Small pieces of gold leaf were still on the stone.

The Temple of Horus is at Edfu. It was built and decorated between 237 and 57 BC, under Ptolemy III to Ptolemy XII. It is dedicated to the falcon god Horus. In the inner sanctuary, where the god's boat and statue once stood, tiny pieces of gold leaf were found high on the walls. Gold also remains on a king's collar in the carving. Cleaners found paint that once covered the pictures. The colour shows clothes and offerings that the bare carving did not. Painters had used colour to correct some signs cut in the stone. Priests had written prayers to Horus in ink inside that inner room.

The page does not say what is still argued.
