The page does not show that this was the oldest funeral fire in the world.
Debated. People made a fire for one woman inside a rock shelter.
At Hora 1, a rock shelter at the foot of Mount Hora in northern Malawi, a layer of ash held the burned bones of one adult woman. The fire is about 9,500 years old. It was built with deadwood and grass. Stone tools lay in the ash. Other burials in the shelter date from about 16,000 to 8,000 years ago.
The page says no one knows why this woman was treated in this way when other people there were buried.
