Stone tools far from East Africa

Ain Boucherit, Algeria. about 2.4 million years ago. Before writing. Debated. Free

The page does not show that the first people began all over Africa.

Debated. Very old stone tools turned up on a high plateau in Algeria.

At Ain Boucherit, in north-east Algeria, stone tools were dated to about 2.4 million years ago. They look like the Oldowan tools known from East Africa. Bones of crocodiles, elephants and hippos lay nearby, and some bones have marks on them. No human bones were found with the tools.

Some experts are not sure the tools are that old, or that people made the marks on the bones.
