Three small clay tablets with signs

Tartaria, Romania. 2700 BC, or 5500 to 5300 BC. Unexplained. Debated. Free

They were not shown to be the earliest writing.

Debated. People do not agree on the signs or the age.

At Tartaria, in Romania, three small clay tablets were found. Each is about two and a half inches across. Two are rectangles and one is round. Two have holes through them. The signs include a horned animal, a branch or tree, and many other shapes. They lay with small figures, a shell bracelet, and damaged human bones. One age on the page is 2700 BC. Another is 5500 to 5300 BC. The ages do not agree.

People still argue whether the signs are writing, pictures, scribbles, religious marks, or marks of ownership.
